Growing up, I played in shale beds made of fragile layers of rocks. Recording history: These rocks are inscribed by water’s movement and contain fossil remains I collected in a jar.
To create these works, I pour thin paint above a canvas on the floor and allow the paint to flow and settle for several hours, or I blow the paint with a fan reminiscent of the strong winds I experienced while living in Buffalo, NY.
In these works, I build up and scrape through layers of paint to represent the creation and destruction of natural forms or the passage of time.
